My friend was born and raised in this house which doubles up as “fish sorting centre”.
Only for a brief period, she left home in search of work in the city...and she found her ‘beau’...got married and returned home to this house.

They have prospered through sheer hard work...... they bought a piece of land and built a lovely house situated about 10 km away from here.

Today, the ‘old house’ is converted into the worker’s quarter with bunkers housing about 20 workers. Fish sorting is still done there.

I slept there once many years ago, I can...still recall the salty ......damp ...fungi smell of the pillow and the mattress....[not stinky].....the type of smells that we’ve grown accustomed to as if it is the smell of our own pillow.

With the window fully opened ....the billowing sea breeze.....the clear starry night with occasional glimpses of shooting stars......the tantalizing sound of waves cascading upon the distant shore.......the warmth humming grow of the carbide lamp...the smells of carbide!......the neighbor’s radio playing ancient Chinese’s operatic music ....soothingly
..I had one of the best sleeps for a long while.

Nostalgia.....those were the days my friends.........cherish every moment, time past too quickly..... Its Friday...June.....09
